Monica Burciaga Meaux's design aesthetic and approach to visual journalism focuses on simple, yet bold design, with an emphasis on typography.
Monica graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelors in Visual Communication / Photography and quickly began her career in publication design.
While working as an editorial designer, Monica then simultaneously went on to also complete a Masters at the School of the Art Institute Chicago (SAIC) in New Art Journalism. There, she was able to contribute to her design background in new forms such as web, app and electronic publication design.
Monica has worked on over 40 professional publications for companies such as Today's Chicago Woman, Suburban Life Publications, The American Bar Association, The Chicago Architecture Foundation and Sun-Times Media, producing pages for both weekly/daily newspapers and magazines.
Currently, Monica is an Art Director for Modern Luxury Magazines, designing and overseeing production for their publications. She primarily works on Silicon Valley and Miami, but has worked on other titles such as Aspen Peak, Beach, Capitol File, Boston Common, Atlanta Medical, Interiors: Scottsdale, Interiors: Boston, Interiors: Chicago, and Weddings Chicago. Monica also designs feature templates for national distribution in Modern Luxury and Interiors titles.
When Monica is not designing magazines, she serves as a design judge for both professional and student journalism competitions, including SPJ, ASBPE and IHSA.
A Chicago native and forever a lake effect kid, Monica can often be found checking out the newest brunch spots in the city, playing tennis for USTA in multiple leagues and enjoying newlywed life with her husband, Bryan.
